Twenty-three years ago, in the academic year of 1996/1997, a small group of UOC professors and about a dozen tutors and course instructors began teaching our llicenciatura degree in law to around a hundred students. Over the years the UOC's Faculty of Law and Political Science has grown in size, number of programmes and academic activity, but our work continues to bring us the same warm feelings as when we started out, and our goals are still to offer quality education to help our students develop professionally and to contribute to the cultural and scholarly growth of our society.
The Faculty of Law and Political Science now has 42 members, who are responsible for offering a wide range of courses in the fields of law, political science, criminology, governmental administration and international relations. Twuelve of our programmes are official qualifications approved by the ministry of education (four bachelor's degrees and eight master's degrees), and we also offer a number of other postgraduate qualifications, short courses, and training programmes tailored to needs of companies and institutions. None of this would be possible without the contributions made by our 820 course instructors, who guide as many as 19,367 students in their learning.
As well as our teaching work, our Faculty conducts a considerable amount of research within our different fields of knowledge, seeking to boost our international reputation as experts in the effects of digital technologies on law, politics and criminology.
The fruits of our teaching and research activities are shared with society in IDP. Journal of Internet, Law and Politics, through the wide range of academic activities we regularly organize – including conferences, workshops, seminars and webinars –, and online via our website, blog and Twitter account, which we invite you to read and follow!
